Physiatry - the Art of Healing
A physiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in pain management and physical rehabilitation. Physiatry was originally developed at the Mayo Clinic in 1936 by Dr. Frank Krusen to train doctors in the diagnosis and management of injuries due to war, genetic abnormalities, and diseases such as polio. Prior to this, a technique called "physiotherapy" originated during WWI to rehabilitate injured and disabled soldiers.
